The Venerables are those who have completed the lengthy canonical process of the Cause, at both the diocesan and Roman levels. All the material that has been gathered and studied is examined within the Congregation for the Causes of Saints by experts in history and theology, before being scrutinized by a group of cardinals and bishops. If the entire process is favourable, the Holy Father may authorize the publication of the decree by which the person becomes Venerable. With regard to these individuals, the Church recognizes a life of virtue that can serve as an example and a source of help for the faithful, but does not yet allow public veneration.
