Communiqué of the General Postulation of Discalced Carmelites

Reports continue to arrive of relics of Blesseds and Saints of the Discalced Carmelite Order that do not meet the canonical requirements and that do not comply with what is determined by the Instruction of the Congregation for the Causes of Saints on “Relics in the Church: Authenticity and Conservation”, of 16 December 2017. We would like to remind and reiterate that in order to be authentic, the relics must bear our seal with the Order’s coat of arms imprinted on the sealing wax, with the relative authentication document signed by the Postulator General, also paying attention that these have not been tampered with or counterfeit.The offer that is indicated by this Postulation serves only to cover the costs of the reliquary, its packaging and any shipping: therefore, it has nothing to do with the exorbitant rates charged by retailers or false fabricators.For this reason, we invite the pastors of the Church to watch over the phenomenon of false relics, and we ask the collaboration of priests, religious and laity, in reporting to this Postulation cases of fraud or abuse in this matter.
